ADOPTION SUCCESS PROGRAM
The Adoption Success Program (ASP) provides education and support to prospective and post adoptive families and children regarding the social, emotional, and cultural challenges involved in the adoption process. The critical goal of this program is to increase the long term success rate and quality of care in permanent adoptive placements. The focus is to help clients learn and utilize skills necessary to cope with the grief and loss that precedes adoption, to build trusting and supportive relationships and to transition into a long term, loving and successful family. All adoptive services are provided by Licensed Clinicians who are also Adoption Competent Counselors due to completing specialized training through the State of Florida. VCC does not discriminate based upon age, ethnicity, ancestry, gender, national origin, disability, race, size, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, or any other status prohibited by applicable law!
TRAUMA RECOVERY PROGRAM FOR YOUTH, ADULTS & FAMILIES
VCC provides specialized treatment for children, adolescents and adults who have experienced various forms of trauma (e.g., abuse, neglect, exposure to domestic violence, etc.) and who would benefit from specialized treatment. VCC has been providing trauma therapy for over 15 years and offers a range of services dedicated to helping survivors of trauma including specialized assessments, treatment and support services. VCC clinicians provide Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Psychotherapy, both of which are evidenced-based and highly effective for resolving emotional difficulties caused by disturbing, difficult, frightening and traumatic life experiences. VCC also offers Equine Assisted Therapy as a subcontracted service through Rocky Creek Farm Equine Services.
TRAUMA-FOCUSED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY (OT)
As part of a comprehensive service array, the Village Counseling Center provides trauma-focused occupational therapy services for youth who have experienced complex trauma due to all types of neglect and abuse. VCC provides occupational therapy to children between the ages of two and 17-years-old who have a history of complex trauma. Many of the children and teens receiving trauma services at VCC typically have severe difficulties with emotional regulation, managing stress, aggression, withdrawal, daily schedules, functionally completing activities of daily living, cognition, physical problems, self-worth, or the ability to enjoy or maintain attachment and connections with others. VCC Occupational Therapists play an integral part in the treatment of children and teens with trauma issues and serve an important role in addressing trauma at targeted and intensive levels of intervention. They are invaluable members of the VCC treatment team because of their knowledge of the social, emotional and sensory effects of trauma and its impact on children’s behavior. Our licensed and specially trained occupational therapists work with other VCC trauma specialists to structure environments, teach cognitive strategies, and build confidence and resilience through participation in occupational therapy. Trauma-Focused OT services are part of a comprehensive array of services offered by VCC, all of which are evidenced-based and trauma-informed.
